MARCH THROUGH ADELAIDE!. MOUNTED POLICE ON SCENE. Adelaide's unemployed wore restless on November 16. Several hundred marched through the streets next morning. The procession halted in front of a newspaper office, where brief addresses wera delivered. After visiting other places the men went to ths Town Hall, but they found the gates closed on them In the gathering were a number of greyheaded men, and middle-aged men wear ing the badge of the returned soldier Joan of Arc was resurrected. Thai title was bestowed upon Mrs. Elke Clark who was neatly attired in white with < lat to match. Twice when the demonstrators were awaiting the results of interviews between officials of the Adelaide Town Hall and Trades Hall and leaders of the unemployed; she. led them in the singing of "Solidarity," which was described as the "Workers' Anthem." She was the most conspicuous figure in the crowd. In the march from the Town Hall, after she had upbraided the present Government, which she held responsible for the existing conditions, she joined up with the first section of fours in the march to tlje Trades Hall The men, who numbered between 400 and 500, orderly throughout. Boohoos greeted a motor in an who broke the line by sending his tramcar through it. It was not long before mounted constables were on' tho scene. For the greater part of the march these officers of the law formed the rear and imparted dignity to the scene. A halt was made at Parliament House, where the men swarmed tho steps and attempted to effect an entrance, but they were persauded to remain ofttside. By this time more police bad assembled. / When the demonstrators left Parliament House a telephone message was sent to Adelaide Town Hall, saying that, it was proposed to call there. Accordingly the gates of the Town Hall were closed to prevent an invasion. Two men made <;r)pec:hes outside the hall and Mrs. Clark delivered an address in which she declared herself a Bolshevist. * »
