THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.

VALUE OF ARBITRATION. OPPOSITION TO EXCLUSION. THE NEW ZEALAND COMPANY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Tuesday. A conference of suppliers' committee men of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., held in Hamilton yesterday, passed the following resolution: "That the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Ltd., take tho strongest action possible to prevent the dairy industry being excluded from the Arbitration Act." Referring to the Arbitration Amendment Bill in his monthly statement to the suppliers. Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of the company, stated that the directors had unanimously come to the conclusion that to exclude the dairy factory workers from (he provisions of the Arbitration Act would not be in the best interests of the industry. The company had operated under the award of the Arbitration Court for some years and. up to the present, had found no cause for complaint. Continuing, Mr. Sterling said : "Our relations with our employees havo been the happiest, and our achievements, for instance, in connection with the Weddel and Ilardley Cup competitions, show conclusively that we have lost nothing in efficiency. We believe that trade unions are established as a definite part of our industrial system and your directors feel strongly that while we have trade unions we should have some tribunal to finalise matters as between ourselves, as employers, and our employees in our factories. It may be, of course, that, liko all human institutions, the Arbitration Court is not perfect, and we are willing at all times to consider any proposal for an improved tribunal, but we hold strongly that we should have a tribunal and that we should not abolish the present one until we have something bettor "We cannot see that a 'go as you please' method of determining conditions of employment in our factories would make for industrial peace, nor would it in any respect be to the advantage of our company or of the industry in general."
