MOUNT EDEN COUNCIL.

EDENDALE DRAINAGE WORK. The Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. E. 11. Potter, presiding. The ' City Council wrote agreeing to contribute £3750 toward the cost of the sewer to Meola Creek, provided the City Council had ncf further liability, and subject to it being understood that the City Council could discharge a certain quantity of sewage or storm water into the sewer. It was decided to reply that the council was not prepared to accept sewage in its drainage system. The engineer said he would shortly report on the matter. He stated fair progress was being made with the main outfall sewer through Mount Albert to £L le borough boundary. There were 46 men on the contract, which would expire next June. The engineer reported that the Mount Eden railway bridgo had been widened by the Railway Department to the full width of the carriageway, and a suitable footpath had been provided. The work was satisfactory in all respects and a vast improvement for vehicular and pedestrian traffic had been effected. Full consideration had been given the suggestion that some improvement be made at the intersection of Stokes Road and Mount Eden Road with the object of facilitating motor traffic. At the same time measures should be taken in regard to the regnla tion of fast traffic, stated the engineer, as under the proposed alterations speeding at street intersections would be greatly encouraged. The matter was referred to (he Works' Committee. The laying of bituminous concrete 20ft. in width on Orange Rond was now approaching completion. The concrete pavement, along the carriageway of Bellwood Avenue and View Road, was giving complete satisfaction under the test of vehicular traffic. It was decided to try the same material on footpaths of Mount Eden Road and View Road for a short section. The report was ndonted. The foreman of works reported that Mewluirn Avenue and Kingsview Road had been laid down with metal and bitumen. and the excavation of rock and the building of the wall in Nicholson Park were well in hand.
