THREE DEATHS CAUSED. WOMAN PINNED UNDER CAR. CAPSIZE IN PATCH OF SHINGLE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHUKCH, Monday. A widow, Mrs. Fanny Shepherd, aged 51, was killed at Southbrook yesterday afternoon in a motoring accident. She was being clriven by her son, aged 19, along the main road, and when he attempted to avoid a collision with a cyclist the motor-car overturned in a patch ol" shingle." Mr. Shepherd escaped with bruises, but his mother was pinned underneath the car. VEHICLE PLUNGES OVER BANK. DRIVER'S SPINE FRACTURED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NELSON, Monday. A sawmill hand, Mr. J. L. Thomas, aged 48, of Kaka, died to-day from a fractured spine, which he sustained when the motor-car he was driving over Spooner's Range nose-dived over a bank on Saturday afternoon. Two other occupants of the car, Messrs. W. Everett and R. Biggs", escaped serious injury. Mr. Thomas was learning to drive at the time, and the instructor was sitting alongside him when the accident occurred. MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. COLLISION WITH A CAR. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON NORTH. Monday.A fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Rangitikei and Featherstone Streets to-night between a car driven by Mr. Ross, of Wellington, and a motorcyclist, Jack Fleming, aged 17 years, of Palmerston North. The latter was picked up unconscious and sent to hospital', where he died. CAR TURNS SOMERSAULT. OCCUPANTS' LUCKY ESCAPE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.], MORRINSVILLE. Monday.
A collision occurred on. the Tauhei Road last night between a two-seater motor-car' driven by Mr. Charlton, of Morrinsviile, with Mr. Lever as passenger, and a stationary car, owned by Mr. J Ford. The two-seater turned a somersault and lay on its side, its front wheels severely bent. The back spring of Mr. Ford's car was broken. No one was injured. MISHAP NEAR PAPAROA. CHILDREN SUSTAIN INJURY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAPAROA, Monday. A motor accident occurred on Saturday on the Paparoa Road, Mr. G. Gulbransen, of Mangapehi, was driving with his three young children, and a niece, aged 16, when the car overturned down a steep bank. The passengers were thrown out. Two of the children suffered severe cuts and abrasions to the head and face, and Mr. Gulbransen sustained a severe cut over one eye. The car was badly damaged. Mr. Gulbrausen and one child were admitted to she hospital. The former was discharged yesterday, after treatment, but the child is still in hospital.
