BOROUGH OF ONEHUNGA.
WATER ' COMMISSION COSTS. PAYMENT UNDER PROTEST. The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening the Mayor, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, presiding. The borough solicitors advised that they did not consider the council could successfully oppose the liability, for costs of the Water Commission. The money will be paid under protest and a remit sent to the next municipal conference, providing that no local body should be liable for such costs without its previous consent. The Mount Roskil) Road Board having agreed to pay £22. being half the estimated cost of repairing Mount Albert Road, the work will be done at once, also the repairs to Pleasant Street. The council will pay half the cost of an electric street lamp in that street. The Onehunga School Committee was granted £2 2s toward the school picnic on December 9. The foreman of works is to submit an estimate for finishing Pleasant Street. The foreman reported that all the men on the returned soldiers' relief work had now been dismissed. The contractors for the sewer in Pleasant ' Street 'had made good progress, and the work was now finished. Fourteen building permits were issued during the fortnight. There are 38 dwellings in course of erection in the borough.
