NEW SOUTH WALES GAOLS.
STATISTICS FOR YEAR. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Nov. 17. The annual report of 4ho New South Wales Prisons Department discloses the fact that, including convicted and unconvicted prisoners, 8158 persons, of whom 6958 were males, were received into the State prisons last year. This is a decrease of 592 compared with the previous year. Less than half the prisoners were natives of Now South Waliss. Seventythree per cent, of the offences were of a minor character. The sentences ranged from one to three months.
