PILLAGE FROM CARGO.
MEMBERS OF CREW ARRESTED CAPTAIN'S SUCCESSFUL RUSE. (Received November 15. 5.5 p.m.) A and N.Z. LONDON. Nov. 15. The police arrested 27 members of tho crew of the P. and 0. vessel Berrima, on her arrival in the Thames. They will be proceeded against to-day on charges relating to losses from the ship's cargo during the voyage from England to Melbourne. The captain of tho Berrima sent a wireless message to London to the police. They chartered a tender and met the Berrima. and eight detectives boarded her and removed the suspected men before the vessel docked. It is gathered that the captain was in a dilemma after the discovery that the cargo had been pillaged. He knew that if the men were arrested in Melbourne he would be unable to leave with a full crew. Therefore it. was arranged that the men should sign on for the return voyage without knowing that there would bo a charge against them.
