BUTTER AS ADVERTISER.
DOMINION KNOWN ABROAD. SWEDEN LOOKS FOR GUIDANCE. The holiday itinerary of Mr. Carl *A. Carlson, Consul-General for Yugoslavia at Stockholm, who arrived at Auckland by the Tofua last evening, includes nearly every country of note in the world. " I nave never taken a holiday before, ' he explained, "and my wife and I decided that this holiday should be a good one. We have been a year away from Sweden already, and we will not reach home again for another two and a-haif years." "We lave heard that in New Zealand you have me loveliest islands in the world." said Mr. Carlson. New Zealand was very well known in Sweden. In the first place, numbers of Swedes who had settled in 'he Dominion had returned to their native country with glowing accounts of New Zealand, and they had clearly shown their preference bv coming backhere. The fame of New Zealand's dairy produce had also spread to Sweden. The Swedish butter is a competitor with tho New Zealand article on the English market, but, Mr. Carlson emphasised, they were friendly rivals. Sweden recognised the excellence of New Zealand's product. and there was a definite movement to follow the pattern of the Dominion. To that end a system of marks had been adopted, and only the finest butter was allowed to Tib branded with these Viking signs, denoting the best quality. Information relating to the agricultural and pastoral industry is eagerly sought by Mr. Carlson. He is convinced that Sweden could learn much from New Zealand, in sheep farming as well as dairying. He is likely to lie a good ambassador for New Zealand in Sweden, as he has brought a moving picture camera with him and is anxious to record impressions of life here for the benefit of friends in Sweden. Mr. and Mrs. Carlson, after spending a week or so in Auckland, will proceed to Rotorua, and will later tour the South Island. They expect to be about six weeks in the Dominion.
