PUBLICITY FILMS.

SCENERY AND INDUSTRY.

GOVERNMENT PRODUCTIONS.

The latest films produced by the New Zealand Government Publicity Department, which were screened privately before the Auckland Advertising Club yesterday and are shortly to be released, show a distinct advance on earlier productions. Both in choice of subjects a:id in photographic technique, they should certainly appeal to overseas audiences. Aptly entitled, "The Milky Way," one of the most interesting films is intended to promote the sale oi New Zealand butter. It covers the whole process of butter-making, from the first stages in a model farm to the final test of quality before export. The picture successfully conveys a vivid impression of a large and efficient industry, in which the perfect product emerges "from a series of processes carried out under the best possible conditions. The magnitude of the organisation revealed in this picture would astonish even the average New ZeaJander and should prove even more interesting to audiences in Great Britain. Impressions of the city of Auckland form the subject of another film. The scenes are well chosen and should do much to dispel mistaken ideas about New Zealand's degree of civilisation. ■ It is a good thing that the publicity methods of a country as yet so little known in Europe as New Zealand should not be entirely restricted to the subject of scenery and natural resources, and an occasional film of this nature, in addition to its intrinsic merit, would serve as a corrective to public opinion. The camera "work in this short picture is good and the varied scenes g'-ve between them quite a good idea of Auckland, its harbour, streets, and public buildings. The scenic attractions of the Dominion are represented by Milford Sound, Rot.orua, Kawau and the Southern Alps. The unique attractions of Whakarewarewa are also adequately presented,,
