BATHING ACCIDENT.

BOY DROWNED NEAR ALBANY. ATTEMPT AT RESCUE FAILS. Believed to have been a victim of cramp, Hugh McElwain, aged 17, sank suddenly while bathing in a stream near Albany yesterday afternoon and attempts to locale the body proved fruitless. The boy, who resided with his mother at Glenfieid, North Shore, went to the stream with two friends. He entered the water alone and when he failed to reappear a neighbour dived several times near the spot where the boy had vanished. The water was very cold and the diver had to abandon his attempts. The stream will be dragged by the police to-day.
