AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

SACRED HEART COLLEGE. ANNUAL SPORTS GATHERING. NEW RECORDS ESTABLISHED. The annual athletic sports of Sacred Heart College were held at the school grounds on Saturday, when a large attendance of pupiL. parents and friends enjoyed a fine afternoon's sport. Only semifinals and finals were decided, the heats having been run off earlier in the week. Each race was run promptly to time. Boyß were marshalled on the nmrku with excellent efficiency and were despatched without delay. There were some large fields, particularly in the distance events, and the racing was good. The sports ground, which has been newly topdreased. was holding, and against fast times. There were tour, records broken. In the 880 yds. walk handicap, G. Gaw. scr.. registered a meritorious performance, clipping 6a, off the championship time. The junior high jump championship was won by Flynn, who cleared 4ft 9in.. and beat the existing record by 2in. The high jump championship-was an excellent contest, and McKewen made a splendid, but unsuccessful effort to beat the record, oft. 4in„ held by Cyril Brownlie, the All Black iootballer. The senior cup was won by G. Meyrick with 32 points, P. Hura being runner-up with 24 points. Meyrick won the 100 yds. and 220 yds. championships, and was third in the 120 yds. hurdles championship. Three new records were made at the New Plymouth Boys' High School athletic sports which were held in fine weather today. R. Watson, who won the , senior championship, clipped one-fifth of a second off the record for the senior 100 yds, which he won in 10 2-ss, while W. A. Beck, who was runner-up in the senior championship, was responsible for fresh figures for the half-mile, which he won in 2m 11 l-ss, 2-5s faster than the record made in 1923 by J. I). Mackay. The third record was established when W. J. Thomas, winner of the junior championship, won the 440 yds in 58 l-os. lowering the previous best time by l-ss. Another unique performance was that of the starter Mr. W. H. Moyes, who had four heats in the 220 yds event moving on the track at the same time. MEETING AT WELLINGTON.
