SOCIETY OF ARTS.
SKETCH CLUB EXHIBITION. Over 220 sketches have been placed 111 the two rooms on the fifth floor of the Dilworth Building where the third annual exhibition of the Auckland Society of Arts Sketch Club will be officially opened this evening by Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergnsson The exhibition will be on week days every afternoon and even ing for r. fortnight. The exhibition represents the results of a very satisfactory vear's work by the fifty members of the Sketch Club. The work of the club has grown io import ance ever since its inception and a hie' 1 standard of excellence had been attained A point of interest in connection with the exhibition is that all the exhibits are the work of local artists, most of them residing near the city and all within the Auckland province. As one would expect, most of the subjects chosen are landscapes, some of them very familiar and treated as a general rule with re freshing originality Still life come« next in order of frequencv. while there are few figure studies Water colour is the favourite medium and there are only a few drawings, a branch in which the exhibition is deficient. The club consists entirely of working members of the Society of Arts. Fewer pictures than before were sent in this year, but the reduced space available is satisfactorily covered. Among the prin cipal exhibitors may be mentioned Mrs. Whvte. Mrs. Sptcer, Miss J. M. Copeland, Miss I. Perry and Miss Minnie White.
