ANATOLE FRANCE.
Since Anatole France passed away in 1924 a constant stream of books about him has been issuing from the press. Biographies, recollections, conversations, rambles and such like have entertained and instructed us with new and delightful aspects of this many-sided personality. The latest is a volume entitled "P re ; faces, Introductions and Other Uncollected Papers." translated, with a foreword and coles, by J. Lewis May The compiler and translator explains that Anatole France wrote many articles which, with characteristic indolence, he never attempted to reserve from oblivion. Prefaces and introductions to other people's books have shared the same fate, and fte in an "unsunned henp." With something like filial piety, Mr. May has rescued from dead newspapers and forgotten magazines many papers which the literarv world will be glad to possess:
The prefaces stand in a class by themselves says a, reviewer, and, while presenting brilliant examples of his charm; in* style, reveal an extraordinary skill in appieciations which are at once high y laudatory and gently critical. The more serious student will turn with delight to the essays'on Victor Hugo, Kenan, btendhal and French poetry. On every page the touch is sure
