MANUREWA CROQUET CLUB.
The official opening of the Mauurewa Croquet Club was held on Saturday. There was a large number of visitors present from Clevedon, Buckland, Papatoetoe, Papakura. Otahuhu and Howick. Mrs. E. S. Pegler, the president, extended a very hearty welcome to the visitors and new members and also gave a brief resume of the club's progress since its formation in 1922. Special mention was made of the work of Mesdames P. Wells and R. Forbes in their endeavours to foster the club in its infancy. The secretary, Mrs. Forbes, played the first ball. A series of competitions was played during the afternoon, the results being as follows:—Clock croquet: Mrs. Gillies, Otahuhu, Mrs. Eunciman, Papatoetoe; spot, Mrs. P. Graham, Clevedon, and Mrs. Hope, Papakura; target, Mrs. Osmond, Buckland, Mi's. Sutherland, Howick; long shot, Mrs. Gillies, Otahuhu. The president and Mr. C. H. Lupton, vice-president, and Mr. P. Nield kindly donated trophies, to be played for during the season.
