THE BISHOP OF BIRMINGHAM.
Sir,—Yoar correspondents, " Anglican'' and Tolerant Anglican," in defending Dr. Barnes, Bishop of Birmingham, are evidently not aware of his other published views and utterances, or they could not possibly defend him. I have in my possession statements by Dr. Barnes, signed by his own hand, which are not only incompatible with the doctrines of the Church of England, as set forth in the Prayer Book now in use, but are in direct opposition to the ordination vows of deacons entering the Church of England, vow 3 which he must have; taken before ordination was possible. Having changed his views since, there is but one honest course open to him. He should resign and leave the Church. His intellectual ability has nothing to do with his Church* manship. W.
