RAISING SPECIAL LOANS. DRAINAGE AND ABATTOIRS.' TITIRANGi BUS SERVICE. The Auckland City (Jouncil met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, presiding. The raising of a special loan of £12,000, being supplementary to the £IOO,OOO loan of 1923 for drainage work, was authorised. The currency of the loan will not exceed 33 years, interest will be at 5£ per cent., and the loan will be issued at par. The security will be provided by the striking of a special rate of one-tenth of a penny in the pound. A special resolution to borrow £30.000 as a special loan for extensions to the municipal abattoirs and the purchase of 111 acres of land for stock holding paddocks was confirmed. A letter was received from Messrs. Meredith, Paterson and Hubble on behalf of Mr H. H. Tolhurst, bus owner, asking if the decision of the council to deny liability to take over Mr. Tolhurst's motor-bus under the Motor Omnibus Traffic Act was final. If it was, instructions had been issued to set up a Compensation Court. It was also stated the council was running vehicles lately taken over from the G.O.C- in Seabrook Avenue. It was decided to reply that the Tramways Committee could not see its way clear to take over Tolhurst's bus service to Titirangi, and that the council buses had ceased running in Seabrook Avenue. The large garage at the corner of Mount Eden and St. Leonards Roads is to be removed, as the result of a recommendation bv the tramways manager, Mr. A. E. Ford. The property was recently taken over at a cost of £1228 from the Mount Eden Motor Bus Company. In response to a request from the Manukau County Council it was agreed to contribute £145, the council's quota, toward repairing tho Mangere Bridge. Under a prior agreement the Manukau County Council will contribute 60 per cent, of the cost and the Onehunga Borough Council 25 per cent. The city engineer reported that repairs were now urgently required. It was decided to agree to a suggestion by the Mount Albert Borough Council that the City Council should contribute half the cost of a foot-bridge over the Archhill Gully at Morrin Street, near the Newton West School. On the recommendation of the Works Committee it was decided to retain in the meantime the services of Mr. H. E. Goldsbro, formerly engineer to the Avondale Borough Council. Mr. Goldsbro will bo attached to the city engineer's department at his present salary of £SOO a year. Messrs. F. W. H. Brinsden and M. J. Covle were appointed delegates to the Great South Road Beautifying Council.
