HARBOUR FISHING LIMITS.

SIMILARITY OF NAMES. INTERESTING POINT DECIDED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. [| COROMANDEL, Thursday. A point of interest to seine-net fishermen was decided in the Coromandel Magistrate's Court to-day when a reserved judgment was given by Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., in connection with a charge brought by the inspector of fisheries, Coromandel, against George Clark, of fishing with a Danish seine-net in a prohibited area in the Coromandel Harbour. On the north side of Coromandel Harbour, said the magistrate, there were two well-known points with similar names. One was Tawiti and the other Tawhiti. Both were shown on available charts and maps of the harbour. The regulation under which defendent was prosecuted forbade the use of a Danish seine-net within that area of the harbour inside a straight line drawn from Tawhiti Point on the north side of the entrance to Esk Point on the south side. The inspector had proved that defendant was fishing with a Danish seine-net inside a line from Tawiti Point to Esk Point, continued the magistrate, but the regulations fixed the boundary as a line drawn not from Tawiti but from Tawhiti Point to Esk Point. Defendant had sworn that he was not fishing within the last-mentioned line. The case, therefore, was dismissed. At the hearing Mr. Bargess appeared for defendant.
