DOCTORS IN HOSPITALS.

NOTICE UPON LEAVING. NORTH CANTERBURY COMPLAINT. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. | CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday "The board is not receiving fan treat merit from these young gentlemen. Fhej refuse to sign contracts when they entei the board's service." That was the opm ion given of young doctors who resign from the resident staff of the North Canterbury Hospital Board without sul ficient notice. Mr. H. J. Otley, chair man of the board, made the statement at to-day's meeting. The Hospital Committee reported that one doctor had given notice that ho de sired to leave two days later. The chairman said the position was becoming very unsatisfactory as far as the board was concerned. The doctors appointed seemed to drift out of the board's employ at their own will._ Once they made up their minds to go, they went. Mr. J. K. Archer claimed that the terms of engagement for young doctors should tie one month's notice on eithei side. Obviously, the young doctors en tered the board's service for their own benefit. The board conferred a benefit on the doctors through then training No doctors should be taken into the board's service unless on the conditions mentioned. The chairman said he had asked one doctor for a month's notice, which had been refused. The board was not re ceivmg fair treatment and the x young doctors had refused to sign any contract The trouble was that the demand ex •eeded the supply. Mr A. T. Smith: Surely these young gentlemen should observe the unwritten law of honour.
