LOAN FOR MOUNT EDEN.

DRAINAGE AND SEWERAGE, j EXPENDING SUM OF £IOO,OOO. SANCTION BY RATEPAYERS. MAJORITY OF 236 AT POLL. The ratepayers of Mount Eden yesterday approved of the proposal of the Borough Council to borrow £IOO,OOO for the extension of sewerage and drainage works within the district. A poll resulted in the proposal being carried by 545 votes, against 509, a majority of 236 Very little interest was taken in the poll, pnly 856 ratepayers out of a total of 6COB recording their votes. Most of these were residents of the area which will be chiefly provided for by the new works, part of the southern zone of the borough, between Balmoral Road and Landscape Road east and west. It is proposed to repay the loan by a special rate levied on all rateable property in the borough. The Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. E. H Potter, stated last evening that he was pleased with the result of the poll. It showed that the ratepayers of the borough recognised the need for still further progress, and that the council still had their confidence.
