PIGEON FLYING.

TAURANGA CLUB'S EVENTS. [BV TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. J TAORANGA. Wednesday. The Tauranga Pigeon Racing Club held a race from Hunterville to Tauranga, 153 miles air line distance. The weather was favourable. Results were:—N. Prime's bc h Lady Dainty. 1; W. Stevens' b c h Firefly, 2: H. Stevens' b c c Midget, 3. The winning bird registered 1179 yds per minute. Another race was held from Levin to Tauranga. 202 miles. The birds had to race under very bad conditions, a head wind with rain and sleet- The high country was obscured by fog. Only seven birds out of the 22 liberated arrived home on the day of liberation. After flying in the rain for nearly nine hours, the first bird, a big red checker, won by over 16 minutes.
