A UNIVERSAL TONGUE.
S ir , —Your correspondent, Mr. C. J. Adcock, in commenting upon my article on "A Universal Tongue," fears that with an international use of English would come debasing modifications introduced by foreigners, i agree that there be a danger of this happening at the hands of and from the mouths of the millions to whom the genius of oar language would be alien. We shall not have to wait, however, until English becomes a world-wide speech, for, in the Lniteu States, the problem is already causing some anxiety to such Americans as have the interest of pure English at heart.
