LITTLE BUSINESB PASSING. ; Amalgamated Dairies, Limited, report having received the following market report from their London manager, under date October 22; — Butter.—Frees are unchanged and nominal (last advices, first grade, 1745; finest, 178s). Very little business is passing. The forward position is still sound. No c.i.f or f.o.b. business is passing. Danish butter, 181s f.o.b. Retail prices are unchanged. Cheese.—New Zealand, 102s to 105s; Canadian, 103s to 106s; spot, 96s to 98s c.i.f. The market is quiet. Retail prices are unchanged. A. S. Paterson and Co., Ltd., yesterday received advice by cable from J. J. Lonsdale and Co., Ltd., quoting butter at 172s to 174s and cheese at 102s. The butter market is reported "dull" and cheese, "slow." NEW POTATOES AT PUKEKOHE. FIRM TONE OF MARKET. [by TKLEon.trn. —own coreesfondemt.] PUKEKOHE. Tuesday The market for new potatoes maintains a firm tone, and quotations to-day range from 95s to 27s 6d per cwt., f.o.r. Pukekohe. From the rain over the week-end and followed by fine weather, growing crops are expected to benefit considerably and prove heavier than those at present being dug. UNITED BUILDING SOCIETY. SUCCESSFUL YEAR'S OPERATIONS. The twenty-first annual meeting of members of the United Permanent Budding and Investment Society was held yesterday. The chairman, Mr. Robert Neill. in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet (published in the Herald on October 19) said it was a matter for congratulation that the society had com pleted another highly successful year's operations, . following the consistent pros penty of the society since its inception. It was satisfactory to note that in addi tion to the payment of a dividend of 7i per cent., the directors were able to rocommend the transfer of a substantial sum to the reserve fund. No anxiety was felt with regard to any of the mortgages held. Although the operating expenses had increased, they were well within the limits of recognised practice. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The secretary, Mr. W. W. Scott, was voted a bonus in recognition of his services. The retiring directors, Messrs. Robert Neill and W. S. Whitley, were reelected. The auditors, Messrs. W. J. A. Thomson and A. M. Seaman, were reappointed At a subsequent special meeting it was decided to amend the rules of the society to enable the term of loans to be extended if necessary from 14 to 21 years. CHICAGO WHEAT MARKET. A. and N.Z. CHICAGO. Oct. 21. Wheat.—December, 1 dollar cents per bushel; March, 1 dollar 25 5-8 cents; May, 1 dollar cents. TARANAKI OILFIELDS. [by telegraph.—press association.] GISBORNE, Tuesday Taranaki Oilfields, Ltd., report:— Waiapu, No. 2 well: Depth, 2425 ft., in grey shale; B£in. casing to 2410 ft. Gisborne No. 1 well: Deptn 760 ft., in sandy shale; lOin. casing to 730 ft. MURCHISON OIL CO. The latest report from the Murchison Oil Company's bore reads as follows: " Depth of hole 3365 ft. in sandstone and mudstone formation, with layers of fine sand. Hole dry and strata standing up well for drilling." SOUTHERN EXCHANGES.
