PRICE FOR WATER SUPPLY.

OFFER TO TOWN BOARD.

CHAIRMAN'S REMARKS RESENTED

[BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. CAMBRIDGE, Friday.

The question of the Leamington Town Board participating in the Cambridge Borough's new water supply scheme was the subject of discussion at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening, when the Mayor, Mr. T. F. Richards, said he strongly resented the attitude the Leamington Town Board had taken. At present there was a deadlock between the two bodies as to the price Leamington should pay for bulk supply. The council asked lOd per 1000 gallons, but this was not acceptable to Leamington. At the Leamington Board's meeting the chairman, Mr. W. Richmond, said the council would rather see water running to waste in creeks than let Leamington have a supply at a reasonable rate.

The Mayor stated the borough ratepayers had to stand the burden of putting in the scheme, and it was only right that Leamington should pay a reasonable price for bulk supply. The council had endeavoured to give the Town Board a straight deal, and the Leamington chairman's remarks wsre uncalled for. The Mayor challenged the .board's consulting engineer, Mr.: H. Roche, that if he could prove that any local body in the province with a scheme similar ■ to that of Cambridge was supplying water., at fd per 1000 gallons he would donate £25 to the Waikato Hospital. If the engineer could not prove it then he should donate £2Ol 1 Finally the Mayor gave of. motion that the council's previous . qffer to supply Leamington at lOd per 1000 gallons be rescinded at the next meeting of the council. He said the Town Board's, .attitude was an insult to the council. „ ; , ' *
