CEMETERIES FOR DOGS.

QUEEN VICTORIA'S PETS.

One of the best-known dog cemeteries is that at Edinburgh. In it are buried | dogs belonging to regiments which have been stationed in the Castle. Each has a headstone with his or her name and regiment inscribed on it. A little-known cemetery is in the grounds of Willingham Hall, near Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. Another tiny cemetery lies on .a hillside at Settle. There is also one in Hyde Park, London. Queen Victoria, always solicitous about the disposition of the bodies of her dead pets, had many monuments erected to their memory at Windsor. One of the most impressive mementoes is on the slopes in the Home Park. It takes the form of a marble pillar on a granite plinth, inscribed: " Here is buried Deckel, the faithful German Dachshund of Queen Victoria, who brought him from Coburg in 1845. Died August 10th, 1859."
