AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB.

MEETING AT ELLERSLIE.

FIRST DAY'S ACCEPTANCES* The acceptances received in connection with the Avondale Jockey Club'a Spring Meeting, which opens at Ellerslie on Saturday next, are all round of a very satisfactory character and big fields are promised. There are 41 acceptors for the Maiden Plate, and it may safely be concluded that the event will be run in divisions. Thirteen horses remain in the Avondale Cup, and a pleasing feature of the acceptances 'or this event is that the quartette placed at the top of the handicap by Mr. McManemin are still engaged, which, of course, invests the contest with a very big interest.

WELLINGTON GOSSIP.

HORSES FOR AUCKLAND.

FORM AT DANNEVIRKE.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WELLINGTON. Friday.

The Absurd gelding Bachelor was shipped to Sydney to-day by the Maheno. He is booked for R. O'Donnell's stable.

A. E. Ellis left on a trip home to-day and returns North next week to ride at the Avondale meeting, where one of his mounts wfll be Te Monanui in the Cup. Ellis has had a good run in the North Island, having ridden six winners in three weeks. Cosmetic was handed over to W. J. Donovan at Dannevirke and will remain in his charge for the Napier Park and Hawke's Bay meetings. S. J. Reid will be at Ellerslie with Chit. F. Davis stated at Dannevirke that ha was undecided as yet as to .what horses he would take to Auckland. Great Charter and the two-vear-olds. Second Wind and Marion's Birthday, are more or less certainties, while Gascorty may complete the team. It is possible that Doree will be left at home to go to Hastings later to contest the Hawke's Bay Guineas. The field in this race does not look bke being a very strong one.

E. A. Keesing goes to Napier Park to rule Mr. J. A. Taylor'g horses, Treshana and Chips. In addition he has been engaged to ride W. Donovan's pair. Teir and Tea Miss. Broad Acre is the latest addition to G. New's team, having been purchased during the course of the Dannevirke Meeting by Mr. W White, the owner of Crown Area. Broad Acre is a fire-year-old gelding by Acre from Peggy Paul, and shows a fair amount of promise By his double victory at Dannevirke this ■week Cerf placed himself oat of hack class. He is a solid galloper and likely to improve yet, so that he should hold his own in open company Excess, the winner of the Takapau Novice Stakes at Dannevirke yesterday, was reported to have run a great trio! at Napier Park. On the strength of this he was backed down to a short price on the first day. Eadly served in a straggling start, he finished a long way back in sixth place. Much better placed in every way yesterday, he had nothing to spare from Kindle. Excess, who is a three-year-old gelding by Kilbroney from Fulsome, may develop into a useful galloper as he, stayed on very well when L. G. Morris applied the pressure on the second day. R. S. Bagby made one of his few appearances in the saddle at Dannevirke on Wednesday on Grey Mist. He was first out and not ia any stage in danger of defeat.

Or the Maiden Platers seen out at Dsnrtev'irke. apart from Excess and Grey Ms**, the winners each day. Kindle, Borselene, lUrij Boy and Abisogne should all be worth remembering There is no reason why Red Fuchsia should •not develcrn into a good class jumper, for he is bred the right way by AH Red. a prolific sire of jumpers, from. Nedra. who carried Mr. C. P. ViJTanee'e colours in many steeplechases. Bed Fuchsia run two very useful races at Dunnevirke mnd, although be did not have s great deal to beat each day. Ins efforts wer» impressive. Rod Fuchsia. Imitation and Cerf were sfl double winners at Dannevirke, but in Cerf* case he had to share the honours at the end of bis second race n th Watchman. AUSTRALIAN RACING. THE ROSEHILL MEETING. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Sept. IS. The Roseh.il! meeting takes place to-mor-row. New Zealand-owned horses are engaged as follows; Camellia Stake*. ? fur.—The Hawk.
