WORK OF MR. L. A. MANDER.
PRESENTATION FROM MEMBERS.
A presentation of a gold watch chain from his colleagues of the League of Nations Union was made yesterday to Mr. L. A. Mander, who for the past five vears has been in charge of tho tutorial classes of tlifl orksrs .'Educational Association. Mr. Mander will leave Now Zealand shortly to take up an assistant professorship in tho School of Political Science in tlie University of Washington, Seattle. In making tho presentation, Mr. E. C. Cutten, tho president, said Mr. Mander was one of the few members of the union who was a real driving force* Not only had ho displayed great interest in the union, but ho had tho faculty of pulling them along with him,. Ho had been an extremely valuable member and any community where ho resided would benefit by having him. (Applause.) In replv, Mr. Mander said he only wished he* could have done more to help the anion. He felt tho union as a body could take iv more active part, in affairs. Mr. Mander will work under Professor C. E. Martin, dean of the faculty, who is noted throughout tho world for his books on political science. Also attached to tho tutorial staff of the school is Professor Gowens, author of several works on Oriental civilisation, and Yosof Hall, who catno into prominence recently for his book, "Revolt of Asia," 1 written under the pen name of Upton Close. The university is attended by between 3000 and 4000 students.
