WORK OF THE UNION. AUCKLAND BRANCH ACTIVITIES. The work done by the Auckland branch of the League of Nations Union in promoting public interest in the league was reviewed at the annual general meeting held in the Priscilla tearooms last evening. The president. Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., presided and some 60 members were present. The annual report stated that the mem bership had increased by 40 during the year and stood at 292 on August 31. If everyone now belonging to the union ;n duced two otheTs to join, membership would be upon a proper footing. The branch had awarded prices during Oie year for the best essays by school chil dren upon the League of Nations The report expressed regret at the coming departure of Mr L A- Mander director of tutorial classes, who has accepted a post in the University of Washington. An en deavonr would be made to bold regular eveninc meetings during the coming vear Tn moving the adoption of the report.
