EXCHANGE OF LAND.

CITY AND GOVERNMENT. THE PUNAKITERE ENDOWMENT. Reporting to the Auckland City Council last evening on his recent visit to Welling ton, the Mayor, Mr. G. Baiklon, said he had interviewed the Ministei of Lands in connection with the Punakitere endowment lands, and represented to him the council's views on the matter, namely, that the council would be prepared to exchange these lands for Government lands closer to Auckland. Some difficulty had arisen owing to the fact that the department stated it had 110 lands of a similai nature near the city, but he informed the Ministei the council would consider any proposals involving land, either at the Waitakeres or Maunga tawhiri, or in any other situation where land could be put to by the city, although not necessarily on conditions similar to the Punakitere block. The Mayor was authorised to continue negotiations.
