BRITISH FILM COMMITTEE.
ADDRESS BY LADY COWAN. Mrs. F. C. Webster gave an afternoon tea on Wednesday, when representatives of various societies were invited to meet Lady Cowan, who is passing through Auckland on an Empire tour. Lady Cowan, who is president of the British Women's Patriotic League, besides being interested in many other women's organisations, gave an interesting address on the work of the British Film Committee of Patriotic Societies, of which she is chairman. The chief aims of the society, she said, were to encourage the showing of British films throughout the Empire, and to inaugurate the scheme of special matinees for children with the most suitable pictures. After her address Ladv Cowan was invited to speak at a public meeting should she find it possible to return to Auckland before going on to Australia, with the idea of forming a similar orgtnisation in this city. Mrs. Garrard, president of the Y.W.0.A., kindly -offered ».hs use of a hall. Among those present were the Mayoress of Auckland, Mrs. Campbell; Mrs. Garrard, Mrs. C». H. Wilson and Miss Jean Begg, Y.W.C.A.; Mrs. BenfeU, district president of the W.C.T.U.; Mrs. Streater and Miss Wallace, Navy League; Mrs. John Cook, W.C.T.U. i Miss A. H, Basten, City Councillor: Miss Mowbray, Victoria League; and Miss Carnachan, president of the National Council of Women.
