TROUT IN RESERVOIRS.
TEMPTATION TO ANGLERS. NO ACTION BY CITY COUNCIL. An offer to stock the city reservoirs with trout fry free of charge was recently made to the City Council* by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, which stated that this practice was followed by 40 corporations in the United Kingdom and had a beneficial effect on the water. Dr. W. Gilmour expressed the opinion that it was very questionable whether the introduction of trout into the reser voirs would serve any useful purpose. The Acclimatisation Society had stated that reservoirs were sometimes stocked with fish in order to keep down floating vege tution, but the need foi this was chiefK in very large storage areas where there was some degree 01 stagnation. It was p.obable that t-e«s, which were already pre sent m the city reservoirs, would serve ti:«s purpose, said Di Gilmour. There ivas, however, nu great degree of stag nation m the city reservoirs "On the other hand." added the doctor, "there is no objection to the presence of trout in the reservoirs except that they would provide a temptation to enthusiastic anglers to trespass on the catchment area. The council lias gone to considerable expense in fencing off this area and it is certainly very desirable that no up. authorised person should cam access to this ground." The council decided to take no action
