DEATH OF SPECIALIST.
STUDY OF ANAESTHETICS. VICTIM OF SELF-EXPERIMENT. (British Official Wireless.) A *nd NZ. RUGBY, Sept. 15 The story of-bow Dr. Sidney P. aw son Wilson, the eminent anaesthetist, gave his life for science, was told at the inquest concerning his death which was held at Manchester to-day. Dr. Wilson was found dead by his wife. He had a mask round his mouth, and it was evident that he had been experimenting with anaesthetics. Witnesses deposed that he was accustomed to administer anaesthetics to himself when alone in hi# study, and to make notes as far as possibl# of his sensation®. He knew the serious risk involved, bat lie trusted to his knowledge of the subject. H.s experiments were principally directed to the discovery of a mixture of nitrons oxide gas and oxygen which would support consciousness, » that persons might be conscious to everything except to the sense of pain. A verdict of accidental death was re , *arK«d.
