In an old publication, printed during the reign of Edward I. id 1274, a civic ordinance was issued that no dealer in poultry should forestall the market by going out to buy either in or ont of the e;ty before the purchasers tor the tables of the King, lords, or citizens had completed their pat chases, lhe prices were fixed as. follows: —A good fowl, ljd; a capon. 2d; a goose, about Easter., sd, and *t other times 3d. Three- young pigeons %er» sold for Id, a pheasant at 4d, a •wsn at 4s and a peacock at Is.
