DECOYS IN SHOOTING.
BREACH OF REGULATIONS.
THREE MEN FINED £2 EACH
"This is not a very serious case." said Mr. F. K. Hunt,, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when the Auckland Acclimatisation Society (Mr. West) proceeded against J. S. Brigham, H. A. Chatfield and Bertram Noat es (Mr. Johnstone) for using more than 25 decoys when shooting. The defendants pleaded guilty. Mr. West said the defendants were caught on July 31, the last day of the season. The regulations provided that the number of decoys should not exceed 25 in 100 yards square of any particular water. The men were shooting from a punt ,ind had 49 or 50 decoys which were not 100 yards apart. Mr. Johnstone said each man took out no more deeoys than he was entitled to. They were not aware that each 25 had to be 100 yards apart. They had agreed to reimburse the society for out-of-pocket expenses.
Mr West; I agree it is not very serious, but it is necessary for the society to have some penalty. A fine of £2 was imposed on each defendant.
