"MIRACULOUS LOURDES."

FATHER GOODMANS ADDRESS

A mcst interesting lecture on "The Miracles ot Lourdes." illustrated with lantern-slides, was given by Father Good man before a large and appreciative audience in St. Mark's Hall, Remuera. last evening. The lecture: said that acquiring its sanctity through the appearance ol the Virgin* Mary to a little shepherdess named Bernadette," Lourdes had become the goal of thousands oi pilgrims suffering from apparently incurable diseases. Cures were effected in many eases in which the re sources oi science were baffled. The work oi the permanent medical bureau at Lourdes, which was assisted by medical men of ail creeds and nationalities, was emphasised. The authenticity of the cures was thus assured by expert evidence. So unassailable was the ev-dence that in 1905 a total of 346 doctors signed a public declaration to the effect that "a.great number of cases considered boneless have been cured at Lourdes bv some action of which science is. ignorant and cannot be rationally explained bv the laws of nature ' As a result of these Wonderful cares, the pilgrimages had grown in number from three individuals oh February 11, 1858, to the present average of one million a year.
