INCREASE IN CHARGES. PROPOSALS BY THE BOARD. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. J NEW PLYMOUTH Mondav Increases in port charges are proposed by thti New Plymouth Harbour Board to provide about £14,000 additional interest charges on the board's loans. It is pro posed to obtain this revenue by an increase in the harbour improvement rate on imports from Is to 2s 6d per ton; to impose a harbour improvement rate of Is per ton on exports and to secure an amount of from £3OOO to £4OOO by ifn increase of wharfage charges against vessels using the port. At present the charges are much below those prevailing at similar ports. Mr. C. H. Burgess has been appointed to fill the vacancy on the board caused by the death of Mr. Newton King.
