LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

THE INTER-ISLAND MATCH. SOUTH ISLAND TEAM CHOSEN. Considerable interest is being displayed in League circles in the forthcoming North v. South Island match to be played in Auckland on September 24. The South Island team was made known yesterday and many new names appear in the list. The team is said to be very well up to the standard of previous years, when the great forwards of the South displayed unusual skill. The backs are reported to be very fast and clever scoring men. Sullivan, the fullback, is said to be a rival to Gregory. J. Sanders is well known here, and was a member of the 1926 New Zealand team. The most brilliant fiveeighths in the League code is the praise accorded McKewen, of Otago. Woods is evidently a high-class half-back. Goodall and Eckoff are considered equal to any League forwards that have represented the South Island. It is interesting to note that Townsend. who was recently transferred to Dunedin from Auckland, is the hooker. The following team has been selected to represent the South Island: —Fullback, Sullivan (Otago); threequarters, Blackaby (Canterbury), Robins (Canterbury), Sanders (Canterbury); five-eighths, Dodds (West Coast), McKewen (Otago); half-back, Woods (Canterbury); forwards, Woodgate (Canterbury), Townsend (Otago), Le Warne (Canterbury), Goodall (Buller), Griffiths (Otago), Eckofi (Otago). Reserves: Oliver (Otago), Burns (Canterbury). The North Island team will not be ch<?sen until Saturday. PRIMARY SCHOOLS MATCH. WAIKATO V. AUCKLAND. The management committee of the Auckland Rugby League has decided to invite the Waikato School representatives to play a return match against the Auckland school boys on Saturday, September 24, as a curtain-raisei to the North Island v. South Island match at Carlaw Park. '
