THE COMPETITIONS.
FINAL CONCERT HELD. The final demonstration concert by prize-winners m the recent festiTal of the Auckland Competitions Society was held in the Town Hall concert chamber on Saturday evening. The entertainment was characterised by. exceptional enthusiasm, each performance being greeted with warm applause by the large audience. Presentations of bouquets and >boxes of chocolates were, made to several of-the artists. Undoubtedly the foremost items were the interpretations of the anthem, "By Babylon's Wave," and the hymn, "Fierce Raged the Tempest," by the Beresford Street Congregational Church Choir. Ijloth selections were delightful and were greatjy appreciated. One of the most popular numbers was a vocal solo, "The Hills of Donegal," by Miss Sybil Phillipps. Applause followed the selection,, and some minutes elapsed before the young singer was" permitted to leave the stage. "The Downs" (Bridges) was the contribution of Miss Audrey Perry, the festival's champion elocutionist. Miss Perry possesses an excellent v,oiee and a pleasing personality, gave a splendid rendering. Mr. J. A. Snsrp created great amusement by his interpretation of the well-known humorous monologue, "And Yet I Don't Kiyjw." The pupils of Miss Aileen Beresford in a spectacular Spanish ballet dance were a feature of the entertainment. Many vocal and instrumental selections too numerous to detail were roudered, and all .met with a hearty reception. "I Wish I Wero a Little Bird," sung by Misses Winnie and Sybil Stevens, and- '"she Moon Upon the Chimney," by Master; David Lunny, were, outstanding. Several items by children met with keen appreciation. The foremost number was, pets' haps, a charming duo dance by Loioma Kay and Joy Simon., A concert;was also given on Saturday; afternoon. There was a large attendanceI and the performers, many of whom were juveniles, were well received. j
