Home team's unbeaten record In the presence i>f about 8000 spectators thd, Auckland Rugby representative; team maintained its undefeated record for,-the season by beating the Otago touring team at Eden Park on Saturday by 11 points to 9,. The game was played in showers of rain and the ground was very heavy and muddy. Tho conditions were all against a good display of football, j . but the teams gave a most exhilarating j exhibition of forward play. The visitors adapted themselves to the circumstances much better than the home team, with the result that Auckland was fully extended to win by the narrow margin of two points. A draw would have been a fairer result on tho day, as ®ach side scored three tries. As a matter cf fact, the game would have resulted in « draw had Mitchell taken a little more caro over his kick at goal from a try Ecored behind the posts. The footwork of the Otago forwards Wgh{y_ impressive, and tho manner in which the backs went down to stop forward rushes evoked the admiration cf every spectator on the ground. The Auckland forwards wsre thoroughly tested, and for onde were beaten in the loose. Ihey did not receive the same support from their backs as was the case ■with the visiting team, however. Taken all round it was a game well worth .watching. The forwards followed up smartly, but Mitchell saved nicely. Berridge made a good opening and passed to Lucas, who raced up to the fullback. The Otago wing, shook oft Hook's tackle, then evaded Paewai and raced across for a fine try with an opponent holding on to him. Lindsay made an excellent attempt to convert■, from wide out.
