LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

THE PROPOSED CHANGES. ADDRESS TO TOWN BOARDS. A combined meeting of the New Lynn, Glen Eden and Henderson town boards was held on Thursday evening, Mr. W. L. Titchener, chairman of the New Lynn Poard, presiding. .The meeting was convened to discuss the proposed scheme of local government for the Greater Auckland area, on the lines of a Metropolitan Council for the major services, with tho maintenance of the present local bodies for the minor and local services.

Mr. T. Bioodworth described the existing chaotic conditions of local government. and Mr. L. A. Eady explained the proposals drawn up by the Auckland committee for the purpose of remedying the present evils. Mr. W. J., Holdsworth, chairman of the Auckland Electric Power Board, concluded the addresses with a forcible speech on the advantages to be derived by the community consequent on the carrying out of the scheme proposed. It was decided to appoint a representative from each of the local bodies concerned to the provisional committee which is being formed for the purpose of drawing up' the details of the scheme.
