SECONDARY EDUCATION.
THE PAPAKURA DISTRICT. REQUEST FOR A HIGH SCHOOL: A complaint that children in the districts surrounding Papakura and Manurewa had no opportunity of obtaining a secondary education was made at a meeting of the Auckland Education Board yesterda_y by Mr. J. Patterson, who urged that a district high school should be established in one of the two centres. The advisory inspector recommended that this should not be done in view of the proposed establishment of a secondary school in Otahuhu. Mr. Patterson said there was n definite need in the district for a high school as the children were not afforded a chance of receiving secondary education. Even when the secondary school was built in Otahuhu it would not give relief to many of the children, and those living away from the railway would not be able to attend it. Replying to questions as to the date of the establishment of a secondary school in Otahuhu, Mr. H. !*j. W. King said the Auckland Grammar Schools Board was viewing sites. A committee of three was set up to report on the question.
