DEATH OF A MINER.
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] y WHANGAREI, Wednesday. An inquest was held at Hikurangi today into the death of Joseph Fuge, a miner, who died late on Monday evening following a- heart seizure. The evidence showed that shortly after commencing work with the four o'clock shift at Wilson's collieries, deceased complained of pains round the heart and at seven o'clock he had to be taken home in a car, as he was in a state of collapse and suffering great pam. Mrs. Fuge returned home from a social gathering at 10.45 p.m. and found her husband in bed and unconscious. He died bsfore the doctor arrived. The medical testimony was that death was due to heart' disease and after deliberating for 45 minutes the jury returned a verdict ot death from ordinary causes. Mr. b/ Wood, for the Miners' Union, asked witnesses whether they thought bad gases in the mine had affected deceased's condition and eventually caused his death, but the doctor said this was most improbable.
