LICENCES FOR TAXIS.
DEVELOPMENT AT THAMES.
COUNTY COUNCIL'S DECISION.
[BY TELECItArH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] THAMES, Friday. The Thames County Council last evening advised the Thames Borough Council of its intention to insist on borough taxidrivers obtaining a licence from the County Council as well as from theBorough Council. The County Council stated it was feeling the strain of maintaining a long stretch of highway and considered an effort should be made to obtain revenue from the users of the road. It had unanimously passed the following resolution "That the county clerk take immediate steps to collect a licence fee from all taxicar owners plying for hire on" the county roads." The Mayor, Mr Bongard, said the council could only hope that the County Council would not take this drastic step, r>nrticularlv in view of the wish of the Minister of Public Works thnt local hnd'V a wou'd not enforce a law that was nevpr ■ntended to he stretched to such a length
