WIRELESS EXPERIMENT
PROBLEM OF WAVE-L F £NGTHS.
POST OFFICE SEEKS SOLUTION.
(British Official Wireless.) A. and N.Z. RUGBY, Sept. 1. An interesting wireless experiment will be undertaken by the General Post Office next week. There are certain areas in different parts of the world where wireless signals which have been transmitted on long waves can be received only with difficulty, if at all, while in other places such signals can be received only at certain hours of the day. With the object of ascertaining to what extent short-wave transmissions may be capable of reaching such areas the British official press messages will be transmitted for two months, beginning on September 8, on a long and a short wave simultaneously. Tho same call sign will be used and the long wtfvo will remain as at present. Tho short wave will 1)0 of 22 metres for tho noon, Greenwich mean time, transmissions, and 37 metres at 8 p.m. and midnight. Reports on tho recejftion by tho various stations will be welcomed by tho General Post Office.
