ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

SCHOOLBOYS' TOURNEY. A WIN FOR WELLINGTON. The schoolboys' Association football tournament for the Webster Shield was concluded at Victoria Park yesterday morning and was won by Wellington. A surprise was registered when Waikato defeated Auckland in the best match of the series. In the first half the ball travelled from end to end at a fast pace. There was no score at half-time. Early in the second half Beadle scored a great goal for Waikato, and although Auckland pressed hard it failed to score. Allsopp played a great game in goaf for Waikato, saving well on many occasions. Haggett was always prominent for Auckland. The final score was: Waikato, 1; Auckland, 0. , The match between Wellington and Manawatu was evenly contested during the first spell. After some good play among the Wellington forwards, Onglev scored a fine goal. Wellington held the advantage throughout the second half, but could not increase its score, and the match ended: Wellington, 1; Manawatu, 0. Bv its victory Wellington won the shield. The boy was taken to the Auckland Hospital and after examination it was found that he was suffering from bruises only. He was able to take his place in the Wellington team yesterday.

PRESENTATION OF THE SHIELD. FINE SPORTING SPIRIT SHOWN. Over 130 boys were the guests of the North Island Primary Schools' Football Association at a dinner last evening. Mr. R. P. Harrison, president, was in the chair. In welcoming the boys Mr. Harrison, on behalf of the Auckland Association, commented on the sporting spirit shown by all the players, and congratulated each province on the high standard of play shown during the series of games just completed. He made special mention of the rapid strides the game had made in the Manawatu district during recent years, and prophesied that Manawatu would win the shield in the near future. Mr. Stewart replied on behalf of Waikato, and Mr. Cuttle for Manawatu. Mr. A. Menzies, president of the Auckland Football Association, in presenting the Webster Shield to Wellington, the winners of the tournament, congratulated the team on its very fine display. He also referred to the splendid sporting spirit, in which the matches had been played. Mr. Ferguson, in accepting the shield, said it was an ambition realised, and that he had been very much impressed with the excellent knowledge of the game shown by all the competitors. A touching reference was made to the unfortunate accident to the Manawatu boy, Ronald Ward, who sustained a fracture of the leg in Thursday's match, and the wish of all for his speedy recovery was expressed. Items by Messrs. Preston, Broadrib and Master Holly were much appreciated. Mr. Stewart, on behalf of the visitors* thanked Mr. Harrison and Mr. 0. Downes for the excellent arrangements made for the success of the tournament and a call for three cheers was eagerly responded to. An enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.

TO-DAY'S BOYS' MATCH. THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM. The. following team has been chosen by the selector, Mr. Harris, to represent New Zealand in the boys' Association football match, Australia v. New Zealand, at Blandford Park to-day:—Goal, Cleal (Takapuna Grammar); fullbacks, Stone (St. Heliers), Oliver (Wellington); halves, Poole (Canterbury), Knight, captain (Auckland Grammar), Bates (Waicote Junior High School), White (WellKilleen (Wellington), Taylor (Northcote Junior High School, White (Wellington), Williamson (Auckland Technical). Reserve: Simm (Wellington). AUCKLAND V. AUSTRALIA. TEAM FOR MONDAY'S MATCH. The following team has been selected to represent Auckland against the Australian schoolboys at Blandford Park on Monday, commencing at 12.30:—G0a1, Cleal (Takapuna Grammar); backs, Haggett (Northcote Junior High) and Stone (St. Heliers); • halves, Strange (Grey Lynn), Knight (Auckland Grammar) and Barry (St. Heliers); forwards, Robinson (Technical College), McClnsky (Takapuna Grammar), Taylor (Northcote Junior High), Ashwin and Williamson (Technical College)., An age limit is fixed for boys under 15 years on June 13, with three exceptions allowed for boys whose age must not exceed 16.
