TO-DAY'S WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 24 hours, from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Unsettled weather is indicated generally, with heavy rain squalls, particularly in districts bordering on the west coast of both islands. Conditions will become colder, snow following on the higher levels in the So.uth. The tropical disturbance has combined with an Antarctic storm area which has developed on the southwest Tasman Sea, and has resulted in barometric pressure decreasing further everywhere. A general increase should take place shortly. Westerly to southwesterly winds, strong to gale, at times. Seas moderating on east coast, but becoming rough along the west eoast. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 29.50 in. Midnight. Tuesday .. .. 2'J.6sin. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government metorologist reported last evening as follows:—Present indications are tor strong and squally west to south-west winds northwards ol Kavvhia and East Cape and south-east to south-west winds elsewhere. Weather cold, unsettled and showery generally, but some heavy rain expected about Cook Strait and m the north-east district of the South Island.. A centre of low pressure located in the vicinity of Cook Strait to-day is likely to pass east of New Zealand soon.
