, FUEL OIL FOR AVIATORS. The British Imperial Oil tanker cola has been specially diverted to Port Moresby with supplies of spirit for the Royal Australian Air Force, in connection with the oil exploration work which the Royal Australian Air Force is carrying out for'the Department of Home and_ Territories in Papua and the Mandated Territory of 2vev* Guinea. The Petricola win be the first oil tanker to call at an island port.

OLD NEW ZEALAND TRADER. The Alaska Packers' Association, which is gradually getting rid or its fleet of sailing vessels, has disposed of another one of its windjammers, the Star of India, which was formerly known as the New Zealand passenger ship Euterpe. She was for several years commanded by the late Cantain Bovle. After passing out of the New Ze Aland-London trade, she was sold to American buyers and made many voyfljtes from the Pacific Coast to Sydney with lumber. About IS years ago she was sold to lier late owners, and was used for the carriage of salmon from Alaska to Wan Francisco. The Star of India, which is an iron vessel of 1217 tons register. was built in Ibe United Kingdom fit years ago. and has had 8 varied career. She is now owned bv the Zoological Society of San Diego, which .has not yet disclosed the future of the old si?ip.

THE XAITANGATA. The Kaitangata is to leave Newcastle today with coal for discharge at Napier, Gisborne and Auckland. THE WAIKUNA. The Wa;runa sailed last evening for Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney, in continuation of her voyage from Pacific Coast ports. CARGO FROM AUSTRALIA. The Kartigi was to leave Melbourne yesterday for Auckland direct The vessel is also bringing cargo from Edithburg. She is due next Thursday. THE TOFUA. The Union Company's Island steamer Tofua reached Suva from Tonga and Samoa at 8.30 p.m on Tuesday. She is to sail at four o'clock this afternoon for Auckland where she is due next Monday THE . CANADIAN CHALLENGER. An expected arrival early, next week is the Canadian Challenger with general cargo from Montreal and Sydney (Cape Breton). She will unload at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin and Bluff. MELBOURNE PASSENGER SERVICE. The Union Company's intercolonial passenger steamer Manuka, which reached Bluff from Melbourne on Sunday afternoon, is due at Wellington to-morrow. Sho is to sail from Wellington for Melbourne direct on Saturday afternoon. MARAMA AT WELLINGTON. The Union Company's intercolonial passenger steamer Marama reached Wellington from Sydney at seven o'clock yesterday morning. She is to bo despatched on the return trip at three o'clock to-morrow afternoon. THE RIMUTAKA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rinmtaka is due at Wellington from Bluff to-morrow to oomplete loading for England. With passengers and mail she is to leave Wellington on Tuesday for Southampton and London, via Panama. WEST ISLIP REPORTS. The American steamer West Islip has reported by wireless to Henderson and Macfarlane. Limited, that she will arrive from San Pedro at seven o'clock to-morrow morning. She is bringing lumber, case oil and general cargo from Pacific Coast ports for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff and New Plymouth. Cargo for Auckland will be unloaded at Prince'i! Wharf. THE MAHENO. The Union Company's intercolonial steamer Maheno, which left Sydney on Tuesday . evening, after being delayed for over four days by crew trouble, is expected to reach Auckland on Saturday morning. The company advises that in the meantime the vessel's departure from Auckland for Sydney' is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. ■Warning to mariners. The Auckland Harbour Board advises mariners that tha construction . of the breakwater in connection with the St. Mary's Bay boat harbour has been stopped temporarily at a point 32" degrees, 1600 ft. from the north-west corner of Freeman's Bay reclamation. This point is marked at night-time by two white lights, vertically disposed, sft. apart. OCEAN TRANSPORT FROM TEXAS. Bringing sulphur from Texas the steamer Ocean Transport is expected at Auckland at an early date. She sailed from Galveston on July 26 and cleared Panama on August. 3. MAKTTRA NEABING SAN FRANCISCO. The Royal Mail liner Makura is due at San Francisco from Wellington tip-morrow. The vessel will leave Snn Francisco next Wednesday on her return voyage to New Zealand and Austral a. She is scheduled to return to Wellington on September 26 and Sydney on October 1.

MATANGI DELAYED. Wet weather delayed cargo operations on the Matangi at Tauranga on Tuesday evening, with the result that she did not sail until 4.30 a.m. yesterday for Auckland, where she arrived at four o'clock yesterday afternoon, nine hours <behind scheduled time. In consequence her departure last evening for Tauranga was postponed until nine o'clock. SOMERSET EXPECTED. The Federal Line steamer Somerset should arrive from Liverpool at any tiirfe now, but she had not reported by wireless yesterday. It is understood that she cleared Panama on August '9, a day affer the Pakeha, which reached Auckland yesterday morning. The Somerset has general merchandise from West Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port .Chalmers ar.d Bluff. She has allotted a berth at Queen's Wharf. The New Zealand Shipping Company are the local agents. NORTHERN COMPANY'S STEAMERS.' The Northern Company advises that the Apanui, after being delayed by bad weather in the Bay of Plenty, is due at Auckland about three o'clock this afternoon, and is to sail for Great Barrier at midnight to-night. Owing to the delay her departure from Auckland for Houhora am 5 Northern poris has been postponed until noon on Saturday. The departure of the Ngatiawa from Onehunga for Hokianga has been postponed until two o'clock to-morrow afternoon. She is due at Onehunga from Raglan and Ka%vhia this afternoon. PAKEHA AT MOTUIHI ISLAND. The Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Pa.keha arrived yesterday morning from London, and anchored off Motuihi Island to unload explosives. The vessel will come into port this afternoon or to-morrow morning and berth at Prince's Wharf to unload general merchandise for Auckland. Her other discharging ports are Wellington and Napier. She sailed from London on July 23 and cleared Panama August 8. Stormy weather when nearing New Zealand delayed her arrival, L. D. Nathan and Company, Ltd., are the local agents. CAMBRIDGE DELAYED. Stormy weather on the East Coast has delayed the loading of the Federal Lino si earner Cambridge at Tokomaru Bay. The sea was moderating yesterday and it is hoped to despatch the vessel this evening for Auckland, where she is due to-morrow On arrival she will berth Queen's Wharf to complete loading for New York, Boston, London, Avonmouth. Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that she is to sail for New York next Friday. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
