WATER ADDED TO MILK.
THREE VENDORS \fi COURT. CHRISTCHURCH PROSECUTIONS. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHEISTCHURCH, Wednesday, Several cases arising from the sale- of milk containing added water were heard in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Harry Snook was fined £ls with costs, and H. E. Waller, retailer, was ordered to pay fines and costs amounting to £22 10s 6d. Snook, for whom Mr. W. F. Tracy appeared, pleaded guilty. Mr. A. W. Brown, for the department, said Snook kept only two or three cows, and sold milk to a retailer who had also been proceeded against. An inspector had taken two sarhples of milk, which contained 32 and 40 per cent, of water. Snook was intercepted when delivering inilk. Mr. Tracy said he could not deny the Beriousness of the offence. Snook milked two cows and sold about eight gallons of milk. Sine® the case was instituted he had given np selling milk. He had no idea how the water got into the milk. The magistrate said he could only conelude that the water har been added deliberately. ? David Kane, who had sold milk containing 37 per cent, of water, was fined £5 and costs. £4 3s 6d.
