EPISODE AT HAMILTON.

ALLEGATION OF ASSAULT. ADJOURNMENT OF CASE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Saturday There was an unusual number of spectators in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court this morning when a farm hand employed at Eureka, named Nathaniel Claud Clarke, aged 36, was charged on the information of William Wood Dillicar, that he assaulted Dillicar by punching him on the neck and by threatening him with a knife. The complainant expressed fear that Clarke would do him grievous bodily harm and asked that Clarke be required to find sureties to keep the peace. Mr. D. Seymour appeared for the complainant, and Mr. J. F. Strang for the defendant. Mr. Seymour applied for an adjournment as he was not sufficiently familiar with the circumstances of the complaint to enable him to proceed. Mr. Strang said he was prepared to proceed. A sensational report had been circulated regarding the complaint, said Mr. Strang, but he assured the Court that Clarke had not gone to the lengths that had been suggested. -Mr. Strang said complainant had nothing to fear from Clarke. The magistrate granted an adjournment of the application until Wednesday, and discharged defendant from custody.
