"ALL BRITISH" TRUCKS.

QUESTION OF DEFINITION.

CITY COUNCIL TENDERS. A sharp discussion on the definition of "all British" manufacture took place at last evening's meeting of the City Council, when a combined report from the Parks and Stores Committee recommended the purchase of a Morris motor-truck at £295 for use at the Zoological Park, on the ground that the vehicle was 'all British." Mr. J. A. C. Allum drew attention to the fact that a Chevrolet truck, described as 25 per cent. Canadian and 75 per cent. New Zealand, could be purchased at £165, according to the tenders received. The committee's recommendation, he contended, was "all wrong." It cast a slur on Canada, which was part of the British Empire, and the Chevrolet truck was as much "all British" as the Morris truck.

Other members of the council spoke in similar strain, and the recommendation was referred back to the committee.
