THE COMPETITIONS.

THE ELOCUTIONARY JUDGE. ARRIVAL OF MR. BORRODALE. To act as judge in the elocution classes at the forthcoming Auckland competitions, Mr. H Borrodale arrived from Brisbane by the Marama yesterday. He will return to Australia at the conclusion of the competitions. Mr. Borrodale has for some years been a teacher of elocution in Brisbane, and has adjudicated ,at several competition festivals in Australian cities For some time he has been acting as announcer at the Brisbane radio station, 4QG, the broadcast programmes of which are very popular with Auckland listeners. Mr Borrodale said wireless was becoming more popular every day in Australia, and an excellent standard of programmes was being set.

Mr. Borrodale said he was looking forward to comparing the standard of elocution in New Zealand with that in Australia. He had heard a great deal about the excellent speech of New Zealanders, without any trace of accent, and he hoped the competitors whom lie would have to judge would not disap point him.
